Item Color Legend

Modified on Thu, 19 Jun at 10:36 AM

Color-coding tasks by their status is a simple yet powerful visual management technique that enhances clarity, focus, and efficiency. It allows teams to instantly recognize the state of work—such as “In Progress,” “Unresolved,” or “Resolved”—without needing to read detailed descriptions. This not only speeds up decision-making but also improves communication and accountability.

By using consistent colors to represent task statuses, teams can quickly identify bottlenecks, prioritize actions, and maintain better control over project flow.

TABLE OF CONTENTS

Default colors

The following colors are used (out of the box coloring):

Red Items

The red color indicates the Item is still open (unresolved in Polarion terminology), but the end date is in the past, so it should have already been finished.

Orange Items

The orange color indicates the Item is still open (unresolved in Polarion terminology),  the end date is in the future, but the current progress is in the past, so it looks like the item is delayed.

Blue Items

The blue color indicates the Item is still open (unresolved in Polarion terminology), and the schedule and progress look optimistic.

Gray Items

The gray color indicates the Item is completed (resolved in Polarion terminology).

Light Blue Items

The light blue color indicates the Item is not scheduled - the start date is by default set to TODAY.

Green Items

The green color indicates that the item is set to be a project item (using a custom Item Script).

Project items have their schedule derived from children. Check out this article to find more.
