Setup GANTT that shows Polarion Plans and Work Items

Requires: Nextedy GANTT 3.7.0

The standard Work Items Gantt  shows only Work Items.

We believe the best use case for Gantt is portfolio planning, but good number of customers also wants to use Gantt to visualise mid-short term plans such as:

• <Polarion Plan: RELEASE> Version2
  • <Polarion Plan: ITERATION> Iteration 35
    • <Work Item: WORKPACKAGE
      • <Work Item: TASK>

1) Setup Demo Project

We will demonstrate it on top of our sample data, please go to Administration > Nextedy GANTT and Setup a Demo project there.

Once you have the Gantt sample project ready, please continue.

2) Open Roadmap

Open the Roadmap report. The sample data shows only first 3 levels:

<Polarion Plan: RELEASE> Version2

• <Polarion Plan: ITERATION> Iteration 35
  • <Work Item: WORKPACKAGE

How is this being done:

• 1st Level - is defined by the scope - Show Plans with Template:Release
  
• It should load 2 more levels
  
• The second level is the derived from Plans , Iterations are children of Releases
• The Gantt is configured to include the planned work item
  

3) Add 3rd level

So now let's add a 3rd level

1. We need to set the load children to 3
2. And we need to set the Link Role to load the item's children
   

Now when we apply the changes, the Gantt loads the children of planned items

Of course, the tasks are not planned so far. This would be up to you to continue and make sure the items you want to see on the gantt chart are planned as needed.
