REQUIRES: Nextedy GANTT Version 4.0.0 and Newer
By default the Gantt is tracking time in days. This means:
- the duration holds the number of days
- when you move items around - the start/end date is set to a specific day, not to an hour/time of a day.
This is a default settings, because by default the gantt is being usually used for long to mid term planning.
What if you want to use the gantt and track hours, or fraction of hours?
There is a widget property:
Widget properties > Data Mapping > Duration Precision
and you can set its value from Standard (Days) to High (Hours)
And from now on, the gantt will manage durations in fraction of hours.
Impact of Duration Precision: High
Scale:
If you work with "High Duration Precisions", you should set the default scale to H (hours)
Widget Properties > Scale = H
When you set the Scale to Hours, you also see that the gantt header shows the hours in a header.
Work Time:
If you work with "High Duration Precisions", you should enable
Widget Properties > Advanced > Working Time = YES
Duration Field:
If you have configured the gantt so the "Duration Field" points to a of type "Duration", such as "InitialEstimate", or custom fields of type Duration, all would be fine.
If you have configured the gantt so the "Duration Field" points to a of type "Integer", "Float", or "String", you need to pay attention to the fact, that the value now holds number of hours (fraction of hours).
So if you have your existing gantt and duration would point to "gantt_duration", and you have stored value "8" in the work item, after you change the Duration Precision, the "8" would represent the number of hours, so the item will be 1 day long.
Start / End Date Fields:
If your start/end date fields point to a custom field of type "Date", you should change it to "Date Time".
