Additional fields in the "+New"/WI edit dialog

Modified on Fri, 4 Apr at 12:14 PM

Since version 25.3.1, the create/edit pop-up dialog was enhanced to allow users to configure which fields should appear when creating od editing a Work Item. This configuration is flexible and type-specific, allowing different Work Item Types to display different fields.

TABLE OF CONTENTS

Select fields

To configure which fields will be shown in the dialog navigate to Parameters > Work Item Types Configurations, choose which Item Type you wish to specify and select Additional Dialog Fields. Added fields are editable directly in the dialog. There is also a possibility to reorder fields in the dialog when selecting items.

Supported fields

The following field Types are supported:

  • String
  • Integer
  • Float
  • Boolean
  • Multi-line Text
  • Duration
  • Enumerations (both single and multi-value, including object-based)
  • Category

Currently not supported fields

Some field Types are not currently supported in this configuration:

  • Date
  • Rich-text
  • Dependent Enumerations
  • Priority
  • Time Point
  • Assignee (unless configured as a resource)
  • Planned In
  • Custom Fields mapped as resources
  • Complex fields (e.g., comments, attachments, Linked Work Items, hyperlinks)
  • Data mapping fields

More field Types will be supported in future releases. For updates check out our change log here or let us know through tickets here which Type would be useful for you.

Not sure if a field is supported? No worries - the system will clearly indicate unsupported fields with a warning.

Permissions and validation

The configuration respects:

  • Field permissions (e.g., read-only access is controlled by permissions, not configuration)
  • Required fields marked as required in the Custom Fields settings
  • Validation rules applied at the workflow level

How the Pop-up dialog behaves

For example let's add Custom Field Department (Enumeration). We added this Department Custom Field to the dialog through Parameters:

When creating/editing a new Work Item, we see the newly added field here:

Other example - see how simple String Type behaves:
