General WI synchonization to plans
Imagine a gantt chart
- we see that DP-478 is scheduled for the 23.Feb - 6.March
- DP-478 is also scheduled to iteration 34, that has a due date on 9.March
You may wish, that if the DP-478 gets delayed, the item shall be automatically planned to iteration 35.
Or if the item spans over multiple iterations, the items shall be planned into all the iterations
In other words, you may setup a process that the item is automatically planned to the Polarion plans that are assigned to the same time range.
In Widget Properties > Work Item Types Configurations you can set to sync the schedule to Polarion Plans (based on template).
Synchronize WIs to plans based on matching context
Since version 24.1.4, it is now possible to match work items to plans using a matching context. This feature enables more precise synchronization, ensuring that work items are linked only to plans that share the same value in a designated custom field, even where multiple plans share the same end date.
Ensure that Sync to Plans -> Iteration is enabled, as described earlier.
To achieve this, both work items and plans must use a custom field designated for context matching. This requires configuring a common enum custom field ID across these entities.
Step 1: Navigate to Administration > Work Items > Enumeration and create appropriate enumeration with predefined values:
Step 2: Navigate to Custom Fields and Plan Custom Fields and create an identical enum custom field for both WIs and plans. Ensure the custom field settings match in both entities:
Now, assign the same custom field value (customer service) to both WI and the plan:
gantt.syncPlans.contextField=department
Once the vale match, moving the WI closer to the plan will automatically link it to the plan:
