We have been receiving comments, on how the gantt is being used both to browse the plan and edit the plan. When browsing, being able to read more information is use full. 

Second, we have been asked to how to prevent accidental changes to the plan. We see that it is worth to separate the view and edit mode.

We have now introduced the work item sidebar with the gantt view.

How does it work now?

View Mode

When you load the gantt, it is first in the "View Mode", in the view mode, you cannot drag and drop items on the pane, but clicking the items opens the sidebar.

You can configure what work item properties are loaded by default in Widget Properties > Work Items Sidebar > Sidebar Fields:

Edit Mode

To switch to edit mode, you click "Edit" in top left corner.

In the edit mode, you can drag items left and right, add new items, drag dependencies etc.

In the edit mode the properties sidebar is disabled.

You can close the edit mode by clicking "Close Edit" in top left corner.

Legacy Mode - Always Edit

For those, that prefer the old "Always Edit Mode", you can either:

•  globally set the configuration property in Polarion Administration > Configuration properties:
  
  nextedy.gantt.workitems.default.alwaysedit=true
  
  
• or specifically for one gantt chart, using Widget Properties > Work Items Sidebar > Always Edit = YES
